An Aberdeen businessman has raised more than £25,000 for charity in memory of his late wife.
Scott Macpherson teamed up with PR and marketing company, ThinkPR, to host a fundraising event at Meldrum House Hotel, in Oldmeldrum near Inverurie last month.
The black-tie event was kicked-off by a nine-hole round of golf on May 19 followed by a dinner and auction supported by Auction Direct with charity auctioneer, Alex Fleming.
28 golfers took part in the day’s events who were joined by 160 guests in the evening.
Two cancer charities, Met Up UK and Make 2nds Count, benefitted from the fundraising day.
‘Carole was the life and soul’
Carole Macpherson died in July 2020 just nine months being diagnosed with secondary breast cancer.
Due to restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the family were only allowed to have a small funeral of just 20 people.
Mr Macpherson said the event was his way of honouring his wife, while raising awareness of the disease.
“Carole was the life and soul, and she was such a caring and giving person,” he said.
“With only 20 of her closest friends and family permitted to attend her funeral, due to Covid restrictions, I wanted to do something in her honour that she would have loved, because she loved a party and loved people coming together.”
‘Blown away by success of event’
ThinkPR chief executive, Annabel Sall, said: “We were extremely proud to support the event.
“I first met Scott when I was in Dubai and supported his business with marketing so when he approached us last year with his story, although tragic, it was something we could all relate to.
“Without question, we agreed to give our voluntary support.”
Lisa Fleming, founder of Make 2nds Count, said the proceeds will allow them to offer support to people living with secondary breast cancer.
She said: “Carole’s story resonates with all of us at Make 2nds Count as another beautiful woman is taken too soon by the cruel reality of this disease.
“We are thankful to have been chosen to benefit from this inspirational event which will allow us to support more people living with the same devastating diagnosis that Carole received – and provide hope that we can do something positive for patients through helping to finance research into secondary breast cancer.”
Founder of Met Up UK, Jo Taylor added: “I was honoured to be invited to attend the Carole Macpherson Memorial Fundraiser in honour of such a beautiful and kind woman and to shed some light on why as the only patient advocacy group in the UK, we campaign so strongly for SBC patients.”
