The results of our poll are in… And it looks like Ellon has a bottomless appetite when it comes to take-aways.
Objectors have been urging Aberdeenshire Council to reject plans for the new food outlet next to Greens in The Square.
Some Ellon residents claim the town is already over-burdened with take-aways, and believe the scheme should be thrown out.
But the silent majority has now spoken – and they are urging councillors to approve the plans when they meet on Tuesday morning.
Sandwich shop would ‘beat another greasy take-away’
In our poll, more than 60% of you voted in favour of granting permission.
There were 114 votes for the change, and 75 against.
Despite the outcry from some quarters, it seems the general mood in the town is for the development – with some hopeful Subway might take on the space.
On the Ellon Matters Facebook page, our poll sparked some interesting conversation.
One resident said: “I wouldn’t object to a Subway, it beats another greasy takeaway.
“I’m sure it’s a great location for school kids and a healthier option.”
Another local added: “If it’s popular and does well, then nothing wrong with being another take-away, rather that than an empty shop.”
And another said: “Why wouldn’t you want another business in the town, means jobs directly and indirectly. If it doesn’t make money then it will close.”

Ellon take-away poll results won’t please everyone
Some remained steadfast in their opposition.
One man said: “No, there are more takeaways and hairdressers/barbers in Ellon than anything else.”
And another described the town as “take-away central”.
Our poll results show a stark difference from the responses submitted to Aberdeenshire Council, with eight objectors and only one supporter.
Members of the Formartine area committee will have the final say.
In a report going before councillors, officers recommend they approve the scheme.
