The owners of a thriving Aberdeen bakery chain are counting the cost after one of their shops was broken into – for the second time in a week.
The Bread Guy in Torry was targeted last night.
Donna McAllister, who runs the business with her brother Gary, said they had just picked up the pieces following a break-in on Monday when cash was taken from the till.
Police have now confirmed a 44-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incidents. He will appear in court at a later date.
Security being stepped up
During the most recent break-in, the bakery door to get in.
It is believed the man – who was caught on CCTV – then used a knife, pair of scissors and a chisel to force open the till.
Miss McAllister said she just happened to spot a motion on the camera at about 11pm last night, causing her to call the police and raise the alarm with her brother.
Miss McAllister said her and staff were “in shock” and said she feels “anxious”.
She added: “We’ve done as much as we can security wise and now it’s just knowing that he’s got the balls to come back, that he might come back again is not ideal.”
The 34-year-old said they had added additional security measures since the first incident and were going to have to do so again.
A police spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a break-in to a premises on Glenbervie Road, Aberdeen, around 6.40am on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. A further report was made about an attempted break-in at the same premises on Wednesday June 15.
“A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with both incidents and will appear in court at a later date.”
