The diesel price at a forecourt in Aberdeen has hit £2 per litre following warnings about rising fuel costs.

The Shell station on King Street is now selling diesel at 205.9p per litre – and around £9.36 a gallon.

On June 8, the diesel at the same forecourt was 194.9p per litre – which means there has been an 11p rise in eight days.

The price of petrol has decreased during that time from 197.9p to 189.9p per litre.

RAC warned motorists just last week that fuel prices would rise to £2 per litre in the summer.

The automotive company made the prediction based on rising oil prices and the weakening of the pound versus the US dollar.

On Monday, the average fuel prices in the UK were 187.01p per litre for petrol and 193.3p per litre for diesel.

Prices continuing to rise in Aberdeen

The Press and Journal has been keeping track of the rise in fuel prices along the length of King Street.

All fuels prices have risen in the past week apart from the petrol at Esso Tesco Express.

The graph below shows the difference at all four forecourts between March 29 and June 8 – with the rise in petrol prices being around 20p per litre.

Petrol and diesel prices at a Highlands pump also passed the £2 per litre mark last week.

The Cluanie Inn, on the A887 Skye to Inverness road, was selling diesel at £2.13 per litre, which was believed to be one of the most expensive pumps in the UK on June 8.

Unleaded was being sold at £2.08 per litre on the same day.
