A woman has admitted fraudulently claiming more than £12,000 worth of benefits.
Carolynn Vaugh-Sharp falsely told the authorities she was living along at her home in Aberdeen’s 27 Gairsay Drive.
However, she was actually staying there with her husband who was in paid employment.
In total the 34-year-old wrongly claimed £12,081.20 over the course of two years.
Between September 2010 and September 2011, she fraudulently took £7,477.60 in income support from the Department of Work and Pensions.
She claimed another £3,224.45 in housing benefit and £719.15 in council tax credits between September 2010 and September 2012.
Sheriff Annella Cowan deferred sentence on Vaugh-Sharp for background reports to be carried out into her character after she admitted two charges yesterday.
High Court sentencing guidelines state that benefit fraud over £10,000 should result in a prison sentence, unless there are “exceptional circumstances” for the crime having been committed.
Vaugh-Sharp will return to Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing next month.
