A financial advisor has been banned from the roads for two years after he was caught driving in Aberdeen city centre while almost five times the legal alcohol limit.
David Millar appeared from custody at the city’s sheriff court yesterday and pleaded guilty to getting behind the wheel with 105 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.
The court heard the 27-year-old, who lives and works in Dubai, had been home visiting his mother for Christmas when police noticed the car he was driving on Market Street.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Ross said when the officers pulled him over early yesterday morning they could smell alcohol on his breath.
A roadside test showed he had more than four times the new legal limit in his system. On December 5, the legal alcohol limit changed from 35mcg in 100 millilitres of breath to 22mcg.
Sheriff Annella Cowan fined Millar £1250 and ordered that he pay it by tomorrow.
She also disqualified him for two years.
