Residents in a north-east community are seeking assurances that a new all-weather sports pitch is still being built after £300,000 was set aside by the Scottish Government a year ago.
The money was given to Aberdeen City Council last December to help build a new 3G pitch in Dyce.
However, concerns have been raised that no progress has been made since the funding was granted.
Mark McDonald, MSP for Donside, has written to the council and the Scottish Government and claims the authority has missed the 12-month deadline for initial works to be carried out.
Mr McDonald said: “I am very concerned that there appears to have been no progress towards developing a new 3G football pitch within the 12-month period stipulated when the funding was awarded.
“Aberdeen City Council must clarify whether they continue to have this funding and divulge the reasons behind their inaction. It would be a disgrace if the community lost out on a valuable resource as result of inaction by the council.
Last night Councillor Willie Young, finance, policy and resources convener for the authority, said he fully understood the concerns of the community but insisted the development was still going ahead.
He said: “Aberdeen City Council is committed to working with our partners Dyce Boys Football, Dyce Amateur Football and Dyce Rugby to build a 3G football pitch at Dyce, that is why we allocated £255,000 towards the project.
“My understanding is that we are at an advanced stage of the design and planning work for the new 3G pitch.”
