It has provided a great day out for thousands of people during the festive period. But the ice rink in Aberdeen’s Union Terrace Gardens has also had a more meaningful mission – raising money for sick children across the north and north-east of Scotland.
Aberdeen Inspired’s festive attraction has brought in thousands of pounds for the Archie Foundation so far by donating every entrance fee directly to the charity’s High 10 appeal, which is raising cash to revamp the children’s hospital.
To thank the organisation for all it has done, a band of Archie ambassadors braved the cold and ice to give the rink a whirl for themselves
Willing participants including Archie chairman Joe Mackie, High 10 appeal star Eilidh Duncan, chief executive David Cunningham and a host of the charity’s employees and supporters.
Mr Cunningham, said: “It has been wonderful seeing so many people enjoy the ice rink this Christmas and it has really brought something extra and magical for visitors of all ages to the city centre.
“I speak from experience when I say it is fun for all the family as my children and my parents have come into Aberdeen just to enjoy the skating during the holidays.
“I’d like to thank Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council for making this happen and for supporting our important work in the RACH this winter.
“We are hugely grateful and I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t had a shot on the ice to do so before it’s too late.”
