Little Dylan Gault made it a dramatic start to the New Year for his family when he arrived in the small hours yesterday – five days ahead of schedule.
Mum Caroline Salazar gave birth to the youngster, who tipped the scales at 7lb 2oz, at 4.54am in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.
He will now join two-year-old sister Sofia and dad Eammon Gault at the family’s Aberdeen home.
The delighted new mum, who was due on January 5, had been in hospital since Monday waiting for the new arrival.
She was induced and her waters broke at around 5pm on Wednesday, giving her a Hogmanay with a difference.
She said: “We were just planning a quiet night in but I ended up screaming the place down instead.
“I had a really easy birth with my daughter so I was expecting more of the same.
“I thought – I’ll go in Monday, I’ll be out Tuesday and have a nice family New Year but no.
“I think he was so cosy in there that he didn’t want to leave.
“Everyone is really excited to come and see him. We’re thankful just to have our wee boy.”
Mr Gault, 26, an insurance worker from Aberdeen, joked: “It’s typical that he came on New Year – the one year that she was going to let me go out with my friends.
“But now I’ll be able to take him out for his birthday and New Year.”
