An Aberdeen family had a lucky escape after a car smashed into their front garden, narrowly avoiding their kitchen window.
Residents of the semi-detached house in Stronsay Drive were woken by a loud bang around 7.05am yesterday.
The car, a silver Vauxhall, came off the road at the junction with Stronsay Place before ploughing through the hedge of one property before crashing through the garden wall of the family home.
The runaway vehicle flipped over before becoming stuck between the kitchen window and the homeowner’s car.
The driver, who was described as being in his late teens to early twenties, was breathalysed by officers and is now in police custody.
He is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after the New Year holiday.
One neighbour who saw the aftermath of the crash said the driver was “lucky” not to have been seriously injured.
It is understood he suffered only cuts to his skin.
Neighbour Gary Law, 54, a print estimator of Stronsay Place, said he was woken by a “very very loud thud” early yesterday morning.
Mr Law said: “It was some thud. The dog just jumped up and looked at me.
“I didn’t hear any screeching of brakes, just the bang.
“There has been an accident waiting to happen around here and I would say the guy was very lucky to have walked away.”
The Vauxhall was later pulled from the front of the house by a recovery vehicle.
Yesterday, the owner of the family home was left to clean up the aftermath of the crash, with glass and debris strewn across his front garden. The garden wall was badly damaged.
He declined to comment on the incident.
