Aberdeenshire Council is enlisting the help of pet owners across the north-east to combat dog fouling.
The Green Dog Walkers initiative asks volunteers to sign a pledge which says they will always clean up after their pet and are happy to give out spare dog waste bags to those without – along with a friendly reminder to others to clean up.
The local authority is also providing a Green Dog Walkers tool kit to every community organisation which joins the scheme.
These will include a supply of brochures, collars, green doggy bags, posters and lanyards.
Aberdeenshire councillor Allison Grant has been involved in publicising the scheme in Insch and the surrounding area.
She said: “By becoming a Green Dog Walker, you will be an ambassador for good practice and encourage others to only leave paw prints behind them.”
