Two men were jailed for more than four years yesterday after they were caught dealing class A drugs in Aberdeen.
Josh Hendry, 23, and Rohan Gordon, 44, appeared on separate charges at the city’s sheriff court and both admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
Gordon, who previously served a 33-month prison sentence for dealing drugs in 2005, also admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin in Aberdeen on June 29, 2013.
The court heard he had been spotted by police in Balgownie Drive, Bridge of Don, carrying a rucksack and walking with another man.
Fiscal depute Gavin Letford said Gordon was stopped and found to be in possession of drugs with a street value of almost £10,000.
Representing the repeat offender, solicitor Liam McAllister said his client, who originally comes from Jamaica, had tried to get his life back on track following his last prison sentence and had started up a small Caribbean restaurant in London.
However, after the business failed, Gordon, a prisoner in HMP Grampian, turned back to drugs when he got himself involved in “bad company”, the solicitor said.
Mr McAllister said his client had merely been asked to meet a man and hand over the rucksack, which he had been informed was full of cannabis.
Sentencing Gordon, Sheriff Napier said he took into account the fact that he had not known the exact contents of the bag, but could not ignore his previous conviction for the same offence which was less than 10 years old.
He sentenced him to 50 months.
Hendry, of 13 Lochinvar Street, Liverpool, was also given a 50-month sentence after he was caught coming off a bus from Manchester at Aberdeen’s Union Square with more than £30,000 worth of cocaine.
Solicitor Mike Allan said his client had agreed to take the class A drugs into the city on February 12 last year in order to pay back an old drug debt.
Sheriff Napier said he had no alternative but to send him to jail to reflect the gravity of the offence.
