Motorists had their say on the new Aberdeen International Airport drop-off charge yesterday – with some branding it “ridiculous” and others seeing “no good reason” for it.
Retired psychiatric nurse Ken Clark, of Stoneyood, said: “I think it’s ridiculous. You can’t see that it’s going to help anyone in regards to congestion, people just drop people off and move on.”
The 74-year-old, who was picking up his son on his return from Singapore, added: “I drop people off quite a lot, especially family and friends. I never normally stay more than a couple of minutes. I’m not too happy about it.”
Pharmacist Andrew Wilson, of Aberdeen’s King’s Gate area, was dropping off his mum at the airport yesterday.
The 40-year-old said: “I think it is a bit much to be honest. If you can get into Terminal 5 in Heathrow and pick-up and drop-off without anything, I don’t see why you’d have to pay for it here.
“When you’re dropping off and picking up it’s never too congested. I don’t think it is about congestion, I think it’s about economics.
“People will just drop off at the roundabout up the road. I am not sure what it is doing for the city.”
Peterhead engineer, Andrew Below, 30, was being dropped off by family members for a break in Paris with partner Pakarina Moya.
He said: “It’s an expensive place in the car park there for a start. I come here probably six times a year. It’s just not on. I can’t see any good reason why they’d be doing it.”
