Thousands of homes across the north and north-east are without power this morning after winds of more than 100mph.
Stornoway is reported to have recorded one of its highest ever wind speeds – 113mph – while Loch Glascarnoch and the Bealach Na Ba in the Highlands have also reached 112mph and 11mph.
Schools are shut and trains have been cancelled because of the severe weather. The Met Office’s amber warning remains in place.
The stormy conditions have left around 69,000 homes without electricity and engineers are battling in dangerous conditions to restore supplies.
Overnight engineers restored electricity to 18,000 customers.
The worst affected areas are the Western Isles and rural areas around Dingwall, however Aberdeenshire, Buchan and Elgin area also affected.
