Around 1,500 properties in the north-east are still without power following this morning’s stormy weather.
A low pressure system from the west caused widespread power cuts to almost 5,000 Aberdeenshire properties, including nine schools, earlier today.
Around 45,000 people in Scotland are still without electricity as Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) engineers work in “challenging conditions” to restore power.
A total of 4,677 customers in Aberdeenshire – 2,250 of them in the Buchan area – were left in the dark today.
Across Scotland almost 100,000 properties were without power as winds reached as high as 100mph in areas of northern Scotland.
However, all Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) customers in the north-east should have their power restored by tonight.
An SSE spokeswoman said: “In Aberdeenshire we are fairly confident that through the course of the evening we will get the majority restored.
“We had about 4,500 customers without power, we have got that down to about 1,500. We are fairly confident that all these will be restored throughout the course of the evening.”
