A young man died when his car careered off a rural road in Aberdeenshire and went into a field.
The 23-year-old was alone in the Vauxhall Astra when the accident happened.
Police were last night still investigating the tragedy and appealed to anyone who saw the silver hatchback before the crash to get in touch.
The accident happened on the winding A950, which runs from New Pitsligo to Peterhead.
The car went off the road just south of the village.
Police have yet to name the driver, who died at the scene.
The road was closed for five hours.
Last night, Central Buchan councillor Lenny Pirie said: “I am very saddened to hear of another fatality on our roads.
“I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to the family concerned.
“There have been a number of accidents on our rural roads and would urge everyone to take extra care in sometimes adverse conditions.”
Fellow Central Buchan councillor Norman Smith added: “All I can say is that my condolences are with the family and relatives.
“It is sad that these things happen.”
And Jim Ingram, who also represents Central Buchan, said a fresh look at road safety may be needed.
He said: “We seem to be having quite a number of fatalities in the area and have had for the last number of months. It’s getting concerning.
“I’m hoping to speak to the police to see if I can get some information as to what their assessment is as to what the causes might be, whether it is road conditions or driver behaviour.
“We certainly need to take a fresh look at road safety to see if something can be done.”
The fatal accident was the second on the A950 in the space of just a few weeks.
In November, 19-year-old farmer William Sangster, who was a passenger in a red Ford Fiesta, died after it collided with a tree near Mintlaw.
The 17-year-old driver, an 18-year-old man and two 17-year-old females were treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Police are currently appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the latest accident, which happened around 8.15am on Saturday, or who saw a silver Vauxhall Astra in the area during the morning, to contact them.
A spoke4sman said: “Sadly, the driver and sole occupant of the car died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.”
