North-east residents show solidarity with people of France at Je Suis Charlie rally

Hundreds of people rallied in the centre of Aberdeen today as the north-east’s French community paid their respects to those killed in the country’s terror attacks.
It comes as around 700,000 people lined streets across France in tribute to the 17 people killed throughout three days of violence in Paris.
Twelve people were shot dead in the offices of Charlie Hebdo last week after armed gunman stormed the offices on Wednesday.
North-east residents – many of them from the region’s French diaspora – attended the Je Suis Charlie rally in the city’s Castlegate today.
Attendees paid tribute to the victims of the attacks and showed their solidarity with the people of France.
Candles were lit and written tributes left within the Castlegate’s Mercat Cross as ralliers defended freedom of speech.
In the days following the attack a policewoman was shot on the streets of a Paris suburb and four hostages were killed in a siege at a Jewish supermarket.
