A north-east fishing vessel which starred in the Trawlermen television series was towed to Peterhead harbour yesterday after losing power.
The town’s RNLI lifeboat The Misses Robertson of Kintail was launched at 12.02pm and met up with the Fraserburgh-registered Sunrise about two miles offshore.
Last night RNLI spokesman David Anderson said: “The lifeboat towed the fishing vessel to Peterhead harbour.
“After the lifeboat and casualty reached Peterhead harbour the tow was taken over, and the fishing boat was berthed by a harbour tug.”
He added that visibility during the rescue operation had been “excellent”.
The lifeboat returned to its berth at 1.30pm.
A spokesman for Aberdeen Coastguard said: “The lifeboat has gone to the aid of a fishing vessel which has lost power and is now towing it back to harbour.”
Workmen from a Peterhead manufacturing firm were making repairs on Sunrise, which was berthed in the South Harbour area, last night.
In 2008 and 2009, the trawler was one of the stars of the BBC’s Trawlermen documentary series.
Then skipper John Stephen and his crew were shadowed by a film crew and the vessel featured prominently in one episode in the final series, when John Stephen Junior – the current skipper – was airlifted to hospital after an accident at sea.
Sunrise also hit the headlines In 2005 when along with Fraserburgh boat Ocean Dawn it clashed with Greenpeace protesters in the English Channel.
The crew were unavailable for comment last night.
