The team at Aden Country Park’s Farming Museum are celebrating after being awarded a £30,000 funding boost.
The money from Museums Galleries Scotland is to be invested in a new interactive exhibit at the centre, due to open later this year.
It will include artefacts and stories from previously unseen archives – some dating back nearly 6,000 years – which chart the story of farming in the north-east right from its birth.
Aberdeenshire Council’s heritage manager Carol Leathley said: “Attitudes are changing to museums, arts and heritage collections. Involvement in, and access to, museums can change peoples’ quality of life and offer regular opportunities to meet and make new friends, share information, use and build new skills.
“The project will include a consultation and exhibition to find out about attitudes towards the museum, using this information to make changes that encourage new visitors.”
She added her team hoped to work with a “broad range of community groups” and will encourage visitors to contribute their own stories to the hands-on and digital displays.
The cash injection, which totals £31,380, has been praised by local councillors.
Councillor Lenny Pirie said: “This is great news for the museum and the staff. The farming museum at Aden Country Park is a tremendous asset to Buchan and is highly-regarded. This funding will help ensure that Aden remains a first class visitor attraction.”
The centre was one of 20 projects across Scotland to receive a share of £641,000 from Museum Galleries Scotland recognition fund.
