The unique guest landed at the Don estuary shortly after New Year’s day and has been attracting visitors from afar ever since. Usually found warmer climates of North America and eastern Russia and, the ducks are rarely spotted on British soil. The last two mainland records for harlequin sightings were at Ayrshire in 1996 and Wick in 1991. Across the UK, there have been about 20 since records began.
