The blaze is believed to have started in the North Bay Pelagic packaging room around 3pm this afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene on Peterhead’s Kirk Square and have been fighting the blaze ever since. Now, ash and sparks from the inferno have set light to a skip on the grounds of the new premises at St Peter Street. Earlier, police urged members of the public to stay away from the site while firefighters battle the blaze. Crews have been trying to subdue the flames before they spread to cannisters containing ammonia. Meanwhile, residents who live in nearby Erroll Street have been evacuated while several roads in the area have been closed.
