A small village with a big fundraising spirit will hold its annual fireworks display this weekend.
Johnshaven will welcome visitors from across the north-east for Sunday night’s show, which has been devised by one of Scotland’s top pyrotechnicians.
Residents raise funds throughout the year for the event, a key date on the village calendar.
Bobbie Still, owner of the Ship Inn, said: “For a wee place, we put on a big fireworks show and it is something we work towards through the year.
“We start collecting money on the night of the fireworks and it just goes on from there.”
Fire dancers and a barbecue will set the mood for the event, which is being staged from the pier by Mark Copland of Event FX.
Mr Copland was responsible for 20 Hogmanay shows – including the AECC display – and is a regular competitor in the British Musical Fireworks Championships.
After the rush of the festive season, Mr Copland said he always looked forward to the Johnshaven event.
He said: “We still have heaps of stuff in store from Hogmanay that will go to good use. They always like a big show in Johnshaven.
“In January it is always a bit quieter so Johnshaven is something to look forward to.
“We love going down there and there is always a good atmosphere and good hospitality.
“I will need to check the tide times first though. Last year we got soaked when we were setting up.”
The fireworks are now held at the end of January after bad weather saw the traditional November event postponed one year.
Hot food will be on offer at the harbour front from 6.30pm on Sunday with the fire dancers performing from 7pm.
The fireworks will start at 7.30pm.
