An Aberdeenshire dancer has said it was a “dream come true” to perform in the Military Tattoo for the first time.

Rosey Watt made her debut in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on Saturday, August 5.

The 17-year-old from Macduff arrived in Edinburgh a week before the show started for intense rehearsals ahead of opening night.

The world-renowned show returned to Edinburgh Castle for the first time since the pandemic.

Rosey, who has watched the performance every year, described it as a “special” opening night, exclaiming the stands were full.

Her mum is a dance teacher, and so Rosey has been dancing and competing for as long as she can remember.

‘It’s a bit nerve-wracking’

Although the teen has travelled the world to take part in Highland dancing competitions, the Tattoo is her biggest performance to date, with a stand capacity of 8,800.

“It’s a bit nerve-wracking,” she admitted. “But it’s a dream come true.

“I watched the Tattoo every year and every year I’d walk out knowing I wanted to perform in it. It’s been on my list so I’m glad to tick it off.”

Rosey, who turns 18 on Friday, will spend the rest of August in Edinburgh, performing to thousands more spectators.

She has been enjoying learning the new dances and formations as well as meeting dancers and performers from all over the world.

She said: “I’ve met so many people outwith dancing, people from other acts in the show, I’ve met people who I never would have met if I wasn’t part of the Tattoo.

“But, just getting to perform on the Esplanade every night is a feeling I can’t describe to others – it’s just surreal.”

The former Banff Academy pupil will also compete in the World Champions later in the month before starting her new course at Robert Gordon’s University to study journalism.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online or over the phone on 0131 225 1188.
