Police have launched a crackdown on dangerous driving and illegal parking outside a north-east primary school.
Parents at South Park Primary in Fraserburgh had raised fears that children were being put at risk by vehicles mounting pavements and double-parking near the building in Philorth Avenue.
Officers are now actively monitoring the school during drop-off and pick-up periods.
Inspector Stewart Drummond revealed that three drivers had already been spoken to.
He added: “There is going to be a dedicated operation.
“We’ll be upfront, we’ll say that we are there to enforce the law.
“It will be a firm and fair approach and, at some points, there will be leniency. But that will be at the discretion of the officer involved.
“Certainly, it’s a focus for us over the next month.”
The police action has been praised by Fraserburgh councillor Charles Buchan.
“Parking illegally outside the school is fraught with danger. Not only to the offenders’ children, but also to other pupils,” he said.
“All parents need to try to persuade the inconsiderate drivers who are too attentive to their own children’s perceived convenience, and not to the safety of all the pupils in the school, to think about parking more safely.
“We do not want a case of serious injury or death caused to a child or parent or carer due to this chaotic traffic congestion.”
