A British Airways flight from Aberdeen to London Heathrow was cancelled after a baggage handling vehicle hit the aircraft.

The flight from Aberdeen airport to London Heathrow was cancelled on Monday evening.

Facing delays from earlier disruptions at the airport, passengers only found out once onboard the plane that it had been struck and dented by a baggage handling vehicle.

As a result, the flight was cancelled later on in the evening and deemed unsafe to fly.

‘Safety is always our highest priority’

Following the cancellation, customers were provided with accommodation and offered alternative flights on Tuesday or a full refund.

British Airways also tried to upgraded the aircraft types being flown on Tuesday to increase capacity to accommodate passengers from the disrupted flight.

This was to allow affected customers to carry on with travel plans as quickly as possible.

While the ground vehicle was said to make “minor” contact with the aircraft, British Airways said it will be fully inspected by engineers before being used for service.

A spokesman for British Airways said: “We’ve apologised to our customers for the inconvenience caused, provided accommodation and rebooked them to depart on today’s flights where suitable for them.

“Safety is always our highest priority and we’d never operate an aircraft unless it was safe to do so.”
