A takeaway delivery driver has been banned from the roads after he was caught drink driving.
Yordan Rachev, originally from Bulgaria, admitted the Boxing Day offence when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
The 42-year old, who lives at Flat 2C, Seaton Place, was almost two times over the limit when he was breathalysed by police.
He had 54 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of his breath.
The national limit was reduced from 35 to 22 mg last month.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Ross told the court Rachev had been spotted on CCTV at Shiprow in the city-centre shortly after midnight, and was seen to be “unsteady on his feet”.
He then got in his car and drove to Union Street, then King Street, where he was stopped by police.
Solicitor Shane Campbell told the court Rachev had drunk three bottles of beer on Christmas evening and was on his way home.
He added that Rachev was the sole provider for his wife and 10-year old daughter, and the only driver in the household, and said a ban would make it difficult for him to find work.
Sheriff William Taylor fined Rachev £200 and told him he had “no alternative” but to disqualify him from driving or holding a licence for a year.
He also ordered Rachev to take a driver awareness course, which, if successfully completed would shave three months off his ban.
