Police have recovered thousands of pounds worth of drugs and cash in a series of raids across Aberdeen over two days this week.

Teams of officers with dogs conducted searches across the city as part of the ongoing Operation Maple on Wednesday and Thursday.

Diamorphine, cocaine and cannabis with a street value of around £2,600 and cash worth around £3,000 were taken during the “intelligence-led” operation.

Six people, including two men aged 33, one aged 35, and three women aged 21, 25 and 30 have been reported to the procurator fiscal for a variety of drug offences.

Police said the raids were conducted across Aberdeen but named Bridge of Don, Tillydrone, Torry and Mastrick as places of particular interest.

A police spokesman said: “Over two days this week officers from Aberdeen City Division carried out further intelligence-led drug search warrants across the city under the Operation Maple initiative.

“Teams of twelve dedicated officers were deployed each day, assisted by colleagues from the local community policing teams in Aberdeen and specialist resources, including two drugs dogs and their handlers.

“The operation also saw local officers carry out evening patrols.

“The action has resulted in the recovery of Class A drugs with an estimated street value of over £2,600 and the seizure of a low four-figure sum of cash.”

Operation Maple has led to the seizure of more than £2million of drugs since it was founded in October 2010.

Detective Inspector Stephen Beattie said: “I would urge members of the public to continue to report any suspicions they have in relation to drug dealing within their communities, as this information plays a huge part in the success of Operation Maple.

“I hope our most recent activities demonstrate to the public our willingness to listen and act upon their concerns.

“Whilst Operation Maple is dedicated to preventing illegal drugs making their way onto the streets, it is also about helping individuals with substance abuse issues and providing them with the help they need.”
