A pedestrian who died earlier today after he was struck by a lorry on a busy north-east road, has been named.
Oskars Zenka, 27, from Latvia died from his injuries after the incident, on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, near to Kintore in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to the road, near to Tavelty Junction, at around 2.30am, but Mr Zenka died at the scene.
A large section of the dual carriageway was closed for more than seven hours, causing huge delays for commuters.
The collision involved a white articulated lorry and the 31-year-old driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the incident.
Sergeant David Pirie, of the Road Policing Department, said: “Losing a loved one in such a tragic way is extremely harrowing and our thoughts are with Mr Zenka’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Enquiries are at an early stage and I urge anyone with information, or who may have seen a pedestrian or the lorry travelling northbound on that stretch of road, to come forward as soon as possible.”
