There was tension in the air as makeshift pedal cars made their way to the start line at this year’s Ellon Pedal Car Race.
The sun shone over Market Street on Sunday as more than 90 children under 16 competed in the morning’s cycle events – and it even stayed out for the afternoon’s fun run too.
The main event started at 2.30pm, with Aberdeen FC goalkeeper Joe Lewis kicking things off in front of a crowd of up to 3,000.
A total of 17 teams competed in this year’s event, all hoping their cars would hold up long enough to take home first place.
In the end, it was representatives from Ythanview Hotel in Methlick who reigned victorious, completing a total of 29 laps of the course.
Chairman of Ellon Pedal Car Race, Mike Watson, said the day was a success, even with a few breakdowns.
“All in all it was a very good day, we’re very pleased with it and the weather was really kind to us,” he said.
“As usual we had some breakdowns with some of the pedal cars but that’s all part of the fun for the crowd.”
All money raised through today’s event, organised by Ellon Rotary Club, will go to Friends of Anchor.
