A public meeting and exhibition will be held in Aberdeen next month on plans for a £18.5million school for children with additional support needs.
The city council has set aside the eight figure sum in its capital programme for the construction of the school on a vacant site at the corner of Howes Road and Davidson Drive, Northfield.
A public “drop-in” session will take place from 2pm to 7pm on Wednesday, February 4 at Heathryburn Primary School.
An exhibition of the proposals will also be available to view from Monday, February 9 to Saturday, February 14 at Northfield library, Byron Square.
The council’s convener of education and children’s services, Angela Taylor, said: “The pre-application event is an ideal opportunity for parents and carers of children with severe and complex additional support needs to find out more about the proposal to construct a purpose-built school for their children.
“We are committed to a purpose-built school which will offer the best environment to ensure the quality of the children’s experience, and help them develop, learn, achieve and participate in the life of their school and broader community, which will enable them to reach their full potential.”
Northfield councillor Gordon Graham said the school was “badly needed” and could provide a regeneration boost to the area.
He said: “This is one of the many things that we are putting into regenerating the area – the new school could provide many jobs for the local community.
“We’d love to see as many people at the meetings as possible.”
Margaret Armstrong, treasurer of Northfield Community Council, said: “I think folk are generally in favour of the new school.”
Those who wish to make comments on the proposals may do so at the above events or by writing to jmarchitects, 64 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4NA, no later than February 21.
There will also be an opportunity to make representations to the council when a formal planning application is submitted.
