Arriving at Pittodrie for today’s shadow cabinet meeting, Labour leader Jim Murphy joked to waiting reporters and photographers that he was “delighted to sign for the club”.
But when the MP appeared on the Dons’ hallowed turf this morning in a Scotland kit it was unclear what the red army would have thought.
Mr Murphy, a season ticket holder at Celtic, said that he had chatted to Derek McInnes about a possible place in the starting team after stating that politics was only his “second love” after the beautiful game.
It’s not clear what Mr McInnes told the 47-year-old politician but it seems unlikely he’ll be pulling on the red shirt anytime soon.
