Heavy rain has flooded an Aberdeen carpet store and is affecting Aberdeenshire roads today following Saturday’s yellow weather warning.
Tapi Carpets & Floors in Kittybrewster Retail Park had to close after heavy downpour flooded the store.
A sign announcing the closure to customers could be seen in the shop’s window as staff tried to brush some of the surface water out of the premises.
Buckets were placed around the store to help catch additional rain water coming in, with part of the ceiling appearing to have collapsed.
The carpets in the front half of the store were drenched in water with puddles forming around the shop.
The store reopened on Monday. Tapi Carpets & Floors business development manager, Tracey Skea said: “Sadly the store was newly refurbished only six months ago and although we were briefly closed on Sunday, we’re pleased to say we’re welcoming customers back today.”
Disruption to roads and Tour of Britain
This follows after the Met Office issued a yellow weather on Saturday warning of heavy downpours across the north-east and some of the Highlands.
The warning is in place until 3pm today and has already affected coverage of the Tour of Britain.
One of the roads used to access one of the main points along the route has been flooded.
Spectators are driving out to Alford to cheer on the cyclists taking part in the race however, the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road appears to be flooded at Westhill.
All events taking place in Alford for the Tour of Britain have also been cancelled due to the heavy rainfall.

On social media, others using the A90 Laurencekirk to Aberdeen road are being warned to drive to the conditions as reports of large amounts of surface water and spray are posted.
Allenvale Road and Allenvale Gardens in Aberdeen are said to be completely flooded and impassable and Aquithie Road going into Kemnay is reportedly extremely flooded.
Drivers are being asked to slow down and leave space between other drivers on the road if out and about.
The downpours across the area are expected to cause disruption and there is a “slight chance” public transport will be affected.
It comes as a similar warning was issued for Oban and surrounding areas on Sunday.
