Two more Tui flights to Aberdeen Airport have had their routes delayed or diverted.
One flight leaving Dalaman for the Granite City had its flight delayed by over 17 hours. It was then diverted to Glasgow due to “poor visibility”.
Another flight leaving Corfu was delayed by over 22 hours. Not all passengers were able to stay in a hotel due to a lack of space.
Tui has issued an apology and statements in both instances.
Dalaman to Aberdeen flight
The TOM541 Dalaman, to Aberdeen flight was scheduled to depart on September 1 at 10.25pm. But was delayed due to crew being outside of their mandatory crew hours as a result of knock-on “operational disruption”.
Tui said they provided all customers with overnight accommodation, meals and refreshments as needed.
The flight departed Turkey at 3.55pm on September 2, more than 17 hours after it was originally scheduled to depart.
However, due to “poor visibility” in Aberdeen, the aircraft had to be diverted to Glasgow, where it landed at 10pm.
Tui said they organised taxis for all customers to transport them back to Aberdeen.
What does Tui say about the Dalaman flight?
In a statement, a Tui spokeswoman said: “We fully appreciate the frustration of customers travelling on the flight from Dalaman to Aberdeen.
“We’re very sorry for the impact of this delay and would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”
Corfu to Aberdeen flight
The TOM1585 Corfu to Aberdeen flight was scheduled to depart September 2 at 7.15pm, but was also delayed due to crew being outside of their mandatory crew hours as a result of knock-on “operational disruption”.
This meant the aircraft would not leave Corfu that evening and passengers had to stay overnight.
Tui said they tried to find hotels for all customers but said there was very limited hotel availability in the area.
They said some passengers had sourced their own accommodation, but said they will “reimburse reasonable costs”.
Some passengers chose to stay at the airport and Tui said they were issued with “meals and welfare vouchers”.
The flight then left at 5pm the next day, more than 22 hours after it was scheduled to depart.
What does Tui say about the Corfu flight?
In a statement, a Tui spokeswoman said: “We would like to apologise to customers travelling on the Corfu to Aberdeen flight.
“Our team worked incredibly hard to source hotel accommodation.
“We’re very sorry for the impact of this delay and would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”
History of Tui problems in Aberdeen
Over the summer, there have been several examples of Tui flights struggling to meet deadlines.
- In September, a diabetic man refused bottle of water after Tui left him “stranded” in Edinburgh without a way back to Aberdeen.
- In late August, a pensioner took matters into his own hands and paid £400 for a taxi to Aberdeen after he was “dumped” in Edinburgh.
- In early August, an eight-year-old slept in a suitcase in a Turkish airport after a flight was cancelled at the last minute.
Aberdeen Airport was contacted regarding these two latest instances. They have not responded.
