Police have named the man who died following a crash near Alford yesterday afternoon.
Westhill man William Paton, 54, was involved in a one-vehicle crash on the road between Keig and Montgarrie.
Police were informed of the collision at 2.30pm and Mr Paton had been driving the silver Citroen Berlingo van that was involved in the collision.
Mr Paton’s family said: “Billy was very much a family man and was adored by everyone. He was a renowned practical joker with family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him including his wee dog ‘Millie’.
“He is survived by his wife of 35 years Elizabeth, known as Liz, daughter Lisa, 32 and son Nicol, 30. Lisa is due to get married later this year.
“Billy was born and brought up near Montrose, moved to Aberdeen in 1984 and began his own painter/decorator business in 1986. He has been self-employed for the past 28 years and gained all his work through word of mouth and never had to advertise.”
