Oldmeldrum and Newmachar residents could have improved transport links into Aberdeen in April as part of plans for an extra service from bus operator Stagecoach.
The proposal would be in addition to the existing 35 route to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Union Square.
It would be joined by a 35a running a route to Union Terrace Gardens via Great Northern Road and Berryden.
The two services would mean buses depart from Newmachar and Oldmeldrum every 15 minutes at off peak times and every 20 at peak times.
A spokeswoman for Stagecoach North Scotland said: “We are currently working on draft proposals that we hope will be available to the public soon.
“We have been working closely with Newmachar Community Council to ensure we are offering a service that reflects the requirements of the community.
“These improvements should commence from April 20.”
The move has been welcomed by local councillors.
East Garioch ward member Martin Ford said: “I very much welcome the proposals for a much improved bus service for Newmachar.
“The new proposals do not just give a better frequency of service.
“They also reinstate direct buses between Newmachar and Berryden and allow for getting on and off at Union Terrace.”
Newmachar Community Council chairman Mike Taylor added: “It is definitely welcome.
“The current 35 route does not stop in the last bit of town which is causing problems.
“There is a demand for a Berryden stop.
“At certain times buses are packed so more frequency is welcome.”
Oldmeldrum Community Council chairman Andrew McCartney added: “There is absolutely a demand for this.
“Anything that will increase public transport and ease congestion must be a good thing.
“Every year there are more cars going out of the A947 so anything that will help reduce this is good.”
