An Aberdeen school has received a glowing report from government inspectors.
Oldmachar Academy, in Bridge of Don, was visited by Education Scotland last November.
A report on the inspection has identified a number of key strengths at the school.
These include the behaviour of pupils, the commitment of staff and a recent ‘Stop-Start-Keep’ exercise which involved pupils, parents and partners assessing where the school needed to improve.
The report also highlighted the awareness pupils have of their own progress and their ambition in what they can achieve once they leave the school.
Pupils’ fundraising and charity work was also a key strength identified, through initiatives such as delivering food parcels to vulnerable pensioners in the area.
However, the inspection team also recognised there was room for improvement at the school.
School staff and quality improvement officers for the council have agreed to look at increasing the range of services for pupils with additional support needs, ensuring there is a continued high quality learning experience and improving the curriculum.
Angela Taylor, Aberdeen City Council’s education and children’s services convener, said: “I am delighted that HM inspectors have recognised that young people are keen to learn and very proud of their school and the commitment and hard work of staff.”
