The good, the bad and the Huntly: Aberdeenshire extras wanted for wild west film

A still from last year's film

Gunslingers are being asked to dust down their stetsons and saddle up to become an extra in a western film – which is being shot entirely in the north-east.

Filming is set to take place at Aberdeenshire’s own little slice of the wild west at Tranquility Wild West Town near Huntly on July 11 and 12 this year.

Organisers promise the planned 25-minute film will be “action packed” and are looking for both male and female extras to take part on a voluntary basis.

This will be the second time that the visitor attraction has played host to the cameras after last year’s filming of their first short film ‘Return of a Son’.

But there was nothing tranquil about the first film featuring all the usual gun duels, fist fights and drinking bouts you would expect from a classic western.

And this year organisers say to expect more of the same promising the new piece will be “tough, brutal, violent and realistic”.

Alistair Baranowski, who founded the village in 2005, said: “We are in pre-production for a western to be filmed later this year at the town.

“Females who may be interested and who have, or are willing to buy or hire, a Victorian-style costume suitable for a saloon girl or just a member of the public watching a hanging are virtually guaranteed a part.

“This will be a really fun weekend experience for those that take part – something they’ll be telling their friends about for weeks.”
