Dons fans working in the oil and gas industry will have the chance to rekindle an old flame this Valentines Day when Aberdeen legend Eoin Jess returns to his home city to take part in a charity tournament.

The 44-year-old former midfielder secured 50 goals for the Red Army over 201 games between 1987 and 1996, and helped the Dons finish second in the Scottish Premier League in the 1993-94 season.

He returned to the Dons after a brief stint at Coventry City, and played a further 113 games, scoring a total of 30 goals between 1997-2001.

On Saturday, he will be at Aberdeen Sports Village to help launch the first Petrofact Training Corporate Cup – a partnership with the Aberdeen FC Community Trust charity.

The free to enter seven-a-side tournament will raise awareness for the trust, which supports community sporting events across the north-east.

Mr Jess will be on hand to offer tips and tricks from his career, which included two games – and two goals – for the national team.

He said: “The Petrofac Corporate Cup is a fantastic event for businesses in the Aberdeen area, giving people an opportunity to have fun, play football land raise money and awareness for the AFC Community Trust.

“I’m really looking forward to going along on the day to give the teams some coaching advice, and to support such a worthwhile cause.

“Aberdeen is obviously where it all started for me and it will be great to give something back to the area.”
