An Aberdeen clubber who attacked a random man after a night out continued to kick and punch his victim even as he lay defenceless on the ground.
Albert Damean assaulted the stranger moments after the man had intervened to try and split up an earlier disturbance outside Atik nightclub on Bridge Street.
Damean, 22, followed the good Samaritan and brutally attacked him on Union Street, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
Fiscal depute Carol Gammie said his victim heard Damean approaching from behind in a “hostile manner” at 2am on November 2 2019.
Rained down a ‘barrage of punches’
“The accused immediately became aggressive and started to lash out at the complainer, punching him a number of times to the face,” she said.
“The complainer attempted to block the punches by raising his arms to protect his face before he fell to the ground.
“At around this time, police officers were on foot patrol on Belmont Street and observed an ongoing assault against the shutters of Primark.
“They saw a barrage of punches by the accused on the face and head of the complainer while he was sat on the ground rested against the shutters, unable to react or retaliate.
“There were a number of persons in the area trying to intervene.”
Damean had to be pulled off of his victim and restrained by police officers who described him as “volatile and clearly under the influence”.
His victim was left with a bleeding nose and swelling to his face and arms.
Had previously been dealing drugs
The court also heard how on a previous occasion Damean was caught with almost £4,000 worth of Class A drugs in his Aberdeen home.
Ms Gammie said police had seen him leaving an earlier incident injured on July 8 2019 and had managed to track him down to his home to check on his injuries.
They found him, and a co-accused, in the Fraser Place flat and after taking Damean to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary they found cocaine and heroin worth £3,950 stuffed down the sofa.
A further search also uncovered £421 cash within a backpack as well as a number of mobile phones.
The drugs were tested and found to total 20.77g of cocaine and phenacetin with a potential street value of £2,070 and 28.22g of heroin worth £1,800.
Damean admitted two charges of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs between January 31 2017 and July 8, 2019.
He also pled guilty to assault to injury and breach of bail charges.
‘You want to turn it around’
Defence agent Mike Monro said his client was involved in dealing for a “short period of time”.
“He was getting his drugs that he was taking for nothing and was making some money for it as well,” he added.
With regards to the assault charge, he added: “Police were well aware there had been an incident earlier and while the accused had been the victim rather than an aggressor. They saw the tail end of it whereby the accused was being the aggressor.”
He also said Damean’s religious mother had sent him on a month-long retreat to Romania and that he’s since entered full-time work and a stable relationship.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin told him: “You have got sensible, legitimate and real goals in your life and you want to turn it around.”
She handed Damean, of Gillespie Crescent, Aberdeen, a nine-month curfew, 120 hours of unpaid work and a year-long supervision order.
