An Aberdeen MSP has been seen leaving a city nightclub alongside a bouncer following an “argument” with another man.

Kevin Stewart, who is the Scottish Government’s minister for mental wellbeing and social care, was attending a drag bingo event at Cheerz bar in the early hours of Monday morning when an argument ensued with another man.

It is understood the 54-year-old minister had been on the dancefloor with a second male when the heated exchange took place.

The event was organised by Out for Independence, the official LGBTQ+ wing of the party, following the SNP conference at P&J Live.

The Aberdeen Central MSP is claimed to have left the city nightclub on Exchange Street alongside a bouncer after the incident.

Speaking to The Sun, one eyewitness said: “There was a lot of finger-wagging and shouting.

“I do remember yelling ‘Are we in Birmingham, are we Tories now?’”

The Sun has reported that footage, taken at the club, shows a man trying to calm down Mr Stewart as he points angrily across the room.

Just hours after the exchange, Mr Stewart returned to the SNP conference at the Aberdeen concert venue.

When asked about the incident by reporters, Mr Stewart said: “There wasn’t a fight, there was an argument.”

He insisted he was not escorted out the bar by the bouncer but “left out of choice”.

The 54-year-old minister stood and watched as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon delivered her closing speech.

He did not sit on stage with other ministers or near the front of the audience, but left the hall alongside an aide as Ms Sturgeon posed for photographs.
