A man has been arrested following a one-vehicle crash on Crown Street in Aberdeen.

Emergency services were called to the city centre at about 1.30am today.

One man was cut free from the vehicle. He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, along with a woman who was also in the vehicle.

Their condition is unknown.

The incident happened between Union Street and Springbank Terrace.

Police have now confirmed a 35-year-old man has been arrested.

A collision investigation has been ongoing throughout the day, with officers seen examining road markings and debris.

The road reopened at 7pm.

‘I heard a woman shouting and screaming in pain’

Arran Jonson, who lives in a flat above the crash scene, said he woke up just prior to the crash.

The 19-year-old described hearing a “big crash” followed by “multiple crashes”.

“When I looked outside, I saw there were a few police cars on the road. Then ambulance and fire crews turned up,” he said.

“The woman was taken out of the vehicle and was taken away in an ambulance but the man was still stuck inside the car.

“Fire crews had to try and get the man out because he was stuck.

“The woman was shouting a lot and screaming in pain but I didn’t hear the guy say anything.”

Debris remained strewn across Crown Street hours after the incident. Photographs from the scene suggest the car may have also mounted the pavement and collided with railings.

Crown Street was closed between Union Street and Springbank Terrace by officers while they investigated.

Inquiries still ongoing

Officers urged motorists to avoid the area while emergency services were at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Around 1.35am on Tuesday, October 11, police were called to Crown Street in Aberdeen, following a report of a one-car crash.

“A man and a woman were taken to hospital for treatment.

“The man – aged 35 – has been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries remain ongoing.

A recovery truck was required to clear the car from the street. Chemicals were used by workers to scrub the blood and oil from the road.
