A popular Aberdeen man has died in what his family described as a “tragic accident”, while on holiday in Southeast Asia.
Peter Macqueen was on a break with friends in Vietnam.
The exact circumstances of the accident are not known at this stage.
The 31-year-old and his group had been on a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia.
Mr Macqueen’s family said they did not want to comment yesterday.
They are currently in talks to have the former Aberdeen Grammar pupil’s body flown back to the UK.
A friend, who did not want to be named, said: “He was such a lovely guy. Everyone is in bits.
“None of us can believe he’s gone for good.”
Friends and family took to social media to express their grief as news of Monday’s accident emerged.
His distraught sister Kim posted a picture of him on Facebook, adding: “My hero. I love you so much my brother.”
Friends added their own tributes.
Scott Morgan said: “Can’t put into words how much I am going to miss this man. Utterly inconsolable.”
Rhory Robertson, who has created a tribute online photo album, added: “I’ll miss you more than you could ever know Pete. I want to tell Peter’s family that I am thinking about them and although I am very far away, I am thinking about everyone in this horrific time.”
An old school friend of Mr Macqueen, Peter Brand, added: “Such sad news. Only just found out. RIP Peter. I haven’t spoken or seen u since grammar but you have been a great friend to a lot of people and you will be deeply missed.”
A spokesman for the Foreign Office confirmed its staff were aware of Mr Macqueen’s death.
The spokesman said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Vietnam. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this sad time.”
