McNasty’s could turn old offices upstairs into 12-bedroom ‘boutique hotel’

A new McNasty's hotel could open on Aberdeen's Summer Street if plans submitted to the council are approved
The owners of McNasty's want to turn old oil offices into a new boutique hotel.

The owners of Aberdeen pub McNasty’s want to turn abandoned offices upstairs into a “boutique hotel”.

The empty space was previously used for health and safety training for oil and gas workers.

But the upper floors of the 35 Summer Street address have now been empty for some time.

The McNasty’s hotel could breathe new life into Summer Street.

Under the new scheme put forward by owners Booktwin Ltd, they could soon be converted into a 12-bedroom hotel.

Have a look around the old offices with this video released when they went on the market:

The offices failed to attract any interest while on the market as they are.

The new visitor venue proposed instead would stretch across two floors above McNasty’s and the adjoining Nawaab Tandoori.

These plans show how the first floor could be reconfigured:

There would be seven bedrooms across the first floor. Supplied by Woodaven Estates Ltd

And here’s how the rooms would spread over the second floor:

And blueprints show there would be another five rooms on the second floor.

Documents sent to the council explain that the hotel would be operated by the bar downstairs.

Dating back more than 30 years, McNasty’s is one of Aberdeen’s oldest independent pubs.

It prides itself on its 14 “massive ultra HD screens” and “roof-raising” karaoke sessions.

The hotel could be perfect for fans of curry and karaoke.

Boutique plans come after big hotels shut doors

It comes after some bigger hotels at the top end of Union Street decided to close their doors in recent years.

The Travelodge is now home to scores of students.

Both the Travelodge and Bauhaus hotels on Justice Mill Lane have now been turned into student apartments.

Where might McNasty’s seek inspiration for hotel plans?

And it’s not unusual for pubs to come with accommodation.

Siberia on Belmont Street offers space for guests, while the Black Isle Brewery has a hostel with 10 rooms available above the bar in Inverness city centre.

Siberia operates as a bar and hotel.

Meanwhile, another Aberdeen pub is putting empty office space upstairs to good use…

Rev de Cuba has been given permission to form a second dancefloor and bar in the abandoned space upstairs.
