Body found in search of Aberdeen missing man James Duncan

A body has been found in the search of an Aberdeen man who had been missing for more than two weeks.

James Duncan, 26, was reported missing after he was last seen in Aberdeen city centre on October 18.

Police believe he later travelled by bus to Ballater. He was spotted in the Deeside town’s Bridge Street area at around 1.20am the following day.

They have now confirmed a body has been discovered a body in the Craigendarroch Hill area of Ballater during their search for Mr Duncan.

The body was found at around 12.20pm on Wednesday.

Formal identification is still to take place but the family of Mr Duncan has been informed of the find.

Officers said the death is not treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.

Tributes pour for ‘kindest guy’

Tributes have now poured in for Mr Duncan, who was a “generous and thoughtful” man and devoted most of his time to supporting those most in need.

The 26-year-old was a passionate volunteer for Aberdeen’s Street Friends – having joined the group last year – and spent six days a week helping the charity.

A Street Friends spokesman said: “He touched so many people while volunteering with the various charities and will be greatly missed by all.

“I volunteered alongside James for more than a year and I never heard him complain once or even utter a swear word, one of life’s true gentleman.

“We can only say that we were fortunate to have crossed paths with James, and for someone so young he was an inspiration to all who met him.

“He may be out of our sight but not our hearts.”

Dozens of people also shared tributes to Mr Duncan on social media and expressed their sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Karen Black wrote on Facebook: “Devastated to hear this. James was a lovely young man – it was a pleasure to have known him.

“Thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

Chris Hutton posted: “A generous and thoughtful man. A kind man, who gave his time to the needy. RIP James.”

Sandy Mair wrote: “James was the nicest and kindest guy you’d ever meet.”

Toria Miles shared on social media: “Just awful. Tears rolling down my face – such a lovely caring lad.”
