Five football fans have been arrested in connection with a disturbance on George Street and a number of incidents at Pittodrie Stadium.
Investigations are under way after police were called to reports of a disturbance on George Street involving a large number of football fans on Friday evening at around 6.30pm.
The disturbance happened in advance of Aberdeen playing Hibs at Pittodrie – a game the Dons went on to win 4-1.
A 15-year-old male was arrested in connection with being in possession of a pyrotechnic at the incident. He was released and will appear at a later date.
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers are investigating following a disturbance on George Street, Aberdeen, which occurred around 6.30pm on Friday November 4.
“Inquiries are ongoing to identify those involved and anyone with mobile phone footage is asked to contact the police.”
Further arrests at Pittodrie
A further four men between the ages of 15 and 25 were arrested by police at Pittodrie Stadium on Friday evening.
Police said these arrests were in connection with a number of offences.
A spokeswoman said: “Four males, aged between 15 and 25, were arrested in connection with a number of offences at Pittodrie Stadium on Friday November 4.
“Three were released and are due to appear at a later date. One was issued with a fixed penalty notice.”
‘Wholly unacceptable’
Photos from George Street at around 7pm on Friday night show a large group of people congregating outside The Butchers Arms.
Videos from the incident have also been circulating on social media. They appear to show police trying to control fans and, in some, lit objects can be seen being thrown through the crowds.
Councillor for George Street, Desmond Bouse, branded the behaviour shown last night as “wholly unacceptable”.
He said: “The behaviour on George Street, following yesterday’s football was wholly irresponsible and totally unacceptable.
“It is deeply unsettling for residents and the community around George Street. The police did their best when exposed to shocking danger.”
