New police figures show a dramatic rise in violent attacks in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire.
In a report prepared for Aberdeenshire Council, officers reveal that the number of assaults and serious assaults in the region – which stretches from Turriff to Ellon – rose by 10%.
The increase in the number of people hospitalised by brutal attacks is particularly worrying, with a shocking 350% rise.
Across the region there were nine serious assaults between April and December last year, compared to only two in 2013.
The new figures follow similar revelations about a rise in violent crime in Fraserburgh, attributed to the town’s drinking culture.
Councillors from Formartine will discuss the report on Tuesday.
