A 44-year-old man has been charged after attempting to drive from Wales to Aberdeen more than five times over the drink-drive limit.
He was around 360 miles into the 490-mile journey north when police pulled him over on the M80 at Stirling on Monday evening.
The decision by Forth Valley’s road policing team was prompted by concerns about his manner of driving.
A roadside breathalyser test found the 44-year-old was more than five times over the drink-drive limit of 22 microgrammes after displaying a reading of 111.
The driver’s nine-hour drive – bound for Aberdeen – was cut short as the police arrested and charged him.
He is due to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court today.
A police spokeswoman said: “Around 4.25pm on Monday, November 14, a 44-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences on the M80 near Stirling.
“He is due to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 15 November, 2022.”
Police tweeted to thank the public for their help in the incident.
Thanks to the public who alerted #ForthValleyRP to the manner of driving of this car on the #M80 at Stirling earlier tonight.
When stopped we we're shocked to find they were trying to make it from Wales to Aberdeen whilst drunk …
