A Deeside Scout group has joined our campaign to help keep families fed this winter.
Banchory Moosehunter Explorers held a food drive for The Big Christmas Food Appeal, and yesterday handed over boxes of goodies to charity Cfine.
A total of 35 Explorer Scouts, aged 14-17, collected toiletries, pet food and dry or tinned goods for the appeal – also adding some treats and chocolates to add some Christmas cheer.
The group, who regularly support other charities and do litter-picking around the Banchory area, were delighted to get involved.
Moosehunter leader Ali Grahamslaw said: “One of our promises as Scouts is to help other people. We all realise that there would be some people that need our support over the Christmas period.
“The group is aware there is a cost-of-living crisis and wanted to help in whatever way they could. It’s on everybody’s mind so they were keen to make a positive difference.”
‘They found it very rewarding’
The Press and Journal, Evening Express, Energy Voice and Original 106 has stepped up the Big Christmas Food Appeal to ease some of the worries many people are facing this winter.
Working with charity partner Cfine, we’re encouraging groups, offices and individuals to do their own food collection, which can then be delivered direct to the foodbank or picked up.
Cfine works with foodbanks across Grampian, the Highlands and islands, ensuring whatever supporters donate goes to those in need in their area.
Mrs Grahamslaw said she was pleased to see how much effort the group put into pulling together the collections, even wrapping up the donation boxes in Christmas paper.
“We picked a night, gathered together and spent the evening getting all the food and donations together,” she said.
“They found the whole experience really rewarding. They were really keen and enthusiastic to support the appeal and put a lot of effort into it to make sure that it was successful, and that all the boxes were presented nicely.
“It’s really important within the Scouting community that we have a very strong link with our local community and that they are putting something back into it.”
