Hundreds of homes were left without electricity as torrential rain continued to cause disruption across Aberdeenshire overnight.
SSEN has announced households and businesses in several locations across the region will have no power supply tonight due to a “fault” on their network.
The Met Office’s amber weather warning was in place until 9pm last night, with heavy rain causing further chaos in north-east communities throughout the night.
Rest centres across Aberdeenshire – including Victoria Hall in Ballater – have been opened to help residents and businesses left waterlogged.
A total of 581 homes in Ballater and the surrounding areas spent the evening in the dark as engineers worked to resolve the issue “as quickly as they can”.
While about half were reconnected to the grid by 8.30pm, many were left without any power overnight. It is expected that the remaining postcodes in the Banchory area will be turned back on by noon on Saturday.
Residents in 37 postcodes around Stonehaven also had no power supply for about four hours. They were all reconnected to the grid at around 8pm.
Meanwhile, there have been power cuts in another 58 postcodes in the Insch area.
A message on the SSEN website said: “We are sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are working hard to get power back on as quickly as they can.”
