Communities across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are bracing for more heavy rain and flooding.
The Met Office has imposed a yellow weather warning for rain on Sunday, covering large parts of the Grampian area.
The persistent rain is forecast to hit Aberdeen, Laurencekirk, Stonehaven, Peterhead, and Fraserburgh. Inverurie, Kintore and Ballater – already hit badly by the latest bout of rain – will also be impacted.
The 12-hour warning came into effect from 3am.
The forecast comes as Aberdeenshire communities battle to recover from severe flooding.
Residents of Inverurie, Ballater, Kemnay, and Kintore have spent much of the weekend pumping water from their homes and drying out belongings after a deluge from the rivers Dee and Don hit their homes and businesses.
The River Dee at Ballater recorded the second-highest river level of the day across Scotland, after the River South Esk at Brechin, which was 11ft high.
The Scottish Government’s resilience committee met yesterday to discuss the conditions and ensure appropriate measures remain in place.
Sepa urges vigilance
Meanwhile Pascal Lardet, Sepa’s flood duty manager, urged Scots to remain vigilant as the second wave of adverse weather looms.
He said: “As anticipated, this was a serious and significant flood event, particularly in the north-east. The event was similar in magnitude to 2016’s Storm Frank, with record high river flows which are now receding.
“Whilst today we’re seeing an improving picture, a number of regional alerts and local flood warnings remain in force which we’ll review across the day.
“We’ll continue to see some wet weather over the weekend as affected areas recover and our advice remains the same – stay vigilant; keep checking the latest information from Sepa and public partners; if you haven’t done so already, register for free alerts and warnings from Sepa’s floodline service; plan any travel with care and don’t drive or walk through or near flood water.”
The severe flood warnings previously issued on Friday for towns including Ballater, Kemnay and Inverurie have been removed.

Take extra care if out & about & don't attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
